Kilian Spandler

Kilian Spandler is an Associate Professor in Peace and Development Research and International Relations at the University of Gothenburg's School of Global Studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Tübingen and has held visiting positions at institutions such as the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta and The New School in New York City. His research focuses on regional governance in Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia, particularly examining the transformation of sovereignty, populism's impact on international cooperation, humanitarian action, and normative global governance frameworks. His co-authored book Contestations of the Liberal International Order (2021) analyzes populist leaders' strategies in regional cooperation. He teaches at undergraduate and graduate levels in International Relations and Global Studies.
