Kien Nguyen-Trung serves as a Research Fellow within Monash University's Water Sensitive Cities initiative, focusing on community-centered approaches to environmental challenges. His interdisciplinary work bridges social sciences with water management, disaster resilience, and climate adaptation strategies particularly in Southeast Asian contexts.
His research interests encompass disaster vulnerability assessment, community social capital dynamics, gender studies in environmental contexts, and water literacy development. Nguyen-Trung employs qualitative research methodologies to examine how communities in vulnerable regions like the Vietnamese Mekong Delta interpret and respond to environmental threats, with particular attention to social dimensions of risk and adaptation.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on innovative research methods including AI-assisted qualitative analysis, practical frameworks for building community water literacy, and culturally-specific understandings of disaster in agricultural communities.
