Kien A. Hua

Kien A. Hua is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and serves as the Director of the Data Systems Laboratory. He joined UCF in 1990 after a lead architect role at IBM Mid-Hudson Laboratories, where he pioneered a parallel computing system that influenced IBM’s SP series.

• Education: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (1987).

His research spans data management, multimedia computing, wireless communications, and intelligent systems, with a focus on live multimedia databases, IoT, neural networks for music generation, and medical imaging. His work has been recognized internationally through best paper awards and as a UCF Research Incentive Award recipient.

• Scientific Awards: IEEE Fellow, UCF Distinguished Lecturer, multiple Teaching Incentive Awards, and 15 Top/Best Paper Recognitions.

He leads the Data Systems Group, contributing to advancements in multidimensional data analytics, social media analytics, and intelligent transportation systems.
