Kiara Jorgenson is an Associate Professor of Religion and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College, serving as Chair of the Environmental Studies Department. She holds a BA from St. Olaf College (2002), MDiv from Denver Seminary (2007), and PhD in Theology from Luther Seminary (2016). Currently on sabbatical until August 2025, her work bridges ecotheology, vocation, and ecological justice. Her research explores Protestant ecotheologies, ecofeminisms, agrarian studies, and Indigenous environmental practices.
Key publications include *Ecology of Vocation: Recasting Calling in a New Planetary Era* (2020) and *Ecotheology: A Christian Conversation* (2020). She actively engages interdisciplinary topics such as climate change theology, children’s environmental consciousness, and liturgical ecology. Her recent projects include reconstructing Lutheran anthropology through an ecotheological lens and a popular work on children’s spiritual connections to nature.
Her teaching spans ecotheology, place-based spiritualities, and environmental humanities. Kiara advocates for environmental justice through community partnerships, notably with Anishinaabe Nibi Grandmothers. Her work emphasizes humility, restraint, and justice in human-environment relationships.
