Kianté Brantley is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University's John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and an Institute Investigator at the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence. His work focuses on improving machine learning systems through interactive feedback mechanisms.
- Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Maryland College Park (advised by Hal Daumé III); postdoctoral work at Cornell University (collaborating with Thorsten Joachims).
Brantley’s research addresses misalignment issues in foundation models by developing algorithms that learn from external feedback. His contributions span reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and natural language processing, emphasizing scalable solutions for complex systems.
Recent publications highlight innovations in RLHF frameworks, successor representations, and constraint-based learning. He actively recruits PhD students for his Harvard lab, targeting interdisciplinary work in AI.
- Scientific Awards:
- Microsoft Research Dissertation Grant (2020)
Brantley co-developed the Transformers Reinforcement and Imitation Learning (TRIL) Library, enabling large-scale training of language models. His collaborations span institutions like Cornell and NYU.
