Khalil Najafi is the Schlumberger Professor of Engineering and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering. He serves as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). His research focuses on micromachining, MEMS, biomedical microsystems, and low-power wireless systems. Najafi has held the Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2008 to 2018.
Education: Completed his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan under Prof. Kensall D. Wise in the 1980s.
Research Interests: Pioneering work in solid-state sensors and actuators since the 1980s. Key areas include:
- Micromachined sensors/actuators
- Analog integrated circuits
- Implantable biomedical systems
- Low-power wireless technologies
Awards:
- IEEE Daniel E. Noble Award (Emerging Technologies)

Entrepreneurial Activity: Co-founded startups ePack, Inc. and Integrated Sensing Systems. His research group at EECS continues to advance MEMS and biomedical engineering innovations.
