Khaled H Assi

Dr. Khaled H Assi serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Bradford within the School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences, which is part of the Faculty of Life Sciences. His academic career at Bradford has spanned over two decades, beginning with his PhD completion in pharmaceutical analysis in 1999.

Dr. Assi's research primarily focuses on drug delivery to the lung, encompassing formulation development for inhalation products. His work involves creating new formulations for inhaled products including dry powder, nanosuspension, and nanoemulsion for both dry powder inhalers and nebulisers. He investigates the effect of adhesion and cohesion energy on DPI formulations and determines in-vitro characteristics of inhaled products. Additionally, he researches pharmaceutical and bioanalytical assay methods, including optimization and validation of techniques for qualitative and quantitative determination of inhaled drugs in aqueous and biological fluids.

As an educator, Dr. Assi teaches MPharm students at various levels and leads the MSc Pharmaceutical Technology and Medicines Control programme. The modules he delivers cover respiratory drug delivery, pharmaceutical analysis, and quality assurance and quality control of pharmaceuticals. His teaching responsibilities reflect his expertise in both theoretical and practical aspects of pharmaceutical sciences.

Dr. Assi's academic journey at Bradford began with a postdoctoral position between 1999-2001 working on inhaled therapies, which was extended for an additional year through a grant from Glaxo SmithKline. He was accepted as a research fellow at Bradford School of Pharmacy in 2002, appointed as a Lecturer, and promoted to Senior Lecturer in March 2016 before achieving his current position as Associate Professor.
