Kevin Thomas, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Vice Dean for Culture, Engagement, and Impact at Duke University School of Medicine. He leads the School’s Office of Culture, Engagement, and Impact, collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives across Duke Health. His efforts include implementing the Moments to Movement Strategic Plan to Dismantle Racism and founding the ADVANCE-UP faculty development program for underrepresented racial and ethnic faculty.

Research Focus: Dr. Thomas investigates racial and ethnic disparities in cardiovascular care, particularly in atrial fibrillation management, implantable device therapy, and HIV-related cardiovascular risks. His work emphasizes equitable healthcare delivery, patient decision-making processes for Black populations, and innovative electrophysiological techniques. Recent studies analyze ablation outcomes, device programming, and social determinants of health in cardiology.

Leadership and Programs: As Vice Dean, he oversees institutional strategies to foster inclusivity, including policy development and faculty mentoring. The ADVANCE-UP program supports career advancement for underrepresented faculty through advocacy, education, and networking.
