Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith is a Professor of Physics and Chemistry at Boston University. His research focuses on synchrotron-radiation based x-ray spectroscopic studies of electronic structures in novel materials. He holds a B.A. in Physics from Trinity College Dublin and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Yale University. His postdoctoral work included time at the National Synchrotron Light Source, Brookhaven National Laboratory. Key research areas include correlated solids, organic semiconductors, transparent conducting oxides, and rare-earth nitrides.

Dr. Smith has co-authored over 145 publications and delivered 140 invited talks. His honors include the Boston University Metcalf Cup Teaching Prize (1999), Massachusetts Professor of the Year (2001), and Fellowships from the American Physical Society and American Vacuum Society. He leads the Novel Materials Laboratory, leveraging synchrotron facilities like the Advanced Light Source for cutting-edge materials characterization.
