Dr. Kevin P. Donnelly is a Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at Bridgewater State University. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the President's Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2015. Dr. Donnelly teaches courses in American Government, state and local government, and public policy.
Dr. Donnelly earned his BS from Providence College, his MA from the University of Rhode Island, and his PhD from Northeastern University. His academic journey has equipped him with a strong foundation in political science and public policy.
Dr. Donnelly's research focuses on language in politics and health and social welfare policy. His work examines how political actors use language to advance policy ideas and interests. He has co-authored a book titled "Foreign Remedies: What the Experience of Other Nations Can Tell Us about Next Steps in Reforming U.S. Health Care" with David Rochefort, demonstrating his expertise in comparative healthcare policy analysis.
Dr. Donnelly has published in prestigious journals including Polity, the Journal of Policy History, Harvard Health Policy Review, and Medicine and Health Rhode Island. His publications reveal a consistent focus on policy language, healthcare reform, and social welfare issues, with a particular interest in how discourse shapes policy outcomes. His recent work continues to explore the rhetoric of political actors in policy debates.
