Kevin Mazur is a Lecturer in Political Economy at King's College London, based in the School of Politics & Economics and the Department of Political Economy. He previously held roles as a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College and worked with the International Crisis Group. He earned his PhD in Politics from Princeton University. His research focuses on identities, networks, and mobilization in conflict contexts, particularly in the Arab world, with a focus on state-society connections, urbanization, and revolutions. Mazur's recent collaboration with the Beirut Urban Lab at the American University of Beirut highlights his engagement with Global South research trends.
Research interests include analyzing the interplay between local networks and state authority in conflict zones, with a particular emphasis on Syria. He is affiliated with the Global South Research Group at King’s, which examines non-European perspectives and international political-economics. Mazur teaches the Politics and Economics of the Middle East MA program, blending theoretical frameworks with regional case studies. His work often bridges meso-level analysis of group dynamics and macro-level conflict outcomes, as seen in his 2023 book Revolution in Syria: Identity, Networks, and Repression (Cambridge University Press).
Key research themes include wartime governance, urban conflict dynamics, and the transformation of local intermediaries in post-2011 Syria. His articles frequently address methodological innovations in conflict analysis, such as correcting satellite data for conflict mapping. Mazur’s work is characterized by interdisciplinary approaches, combining political theory with empirical fieldwork in conflict-affected regions.
