Dr. Lucas's research examines ideological coherence in party systems, the relationship between economic policies like dollarization and political outcomes, and how voters interpret ideological labels across Latin America. He has conducted fieldwork in Ecuador, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Guatemala to support his work.
His academic outputs reflect a consistent focus on Latin American politics, particularly Brazil and El Salvador. Key themes include electoral coattails, programmatic party-voter linkages, and the practical application of political science education through internships. While his peer-reviewed publications center on Brazil and El Salvador, conference presentations extend to theoretical discussions about ideological labels and experiential learning pedagogy.
