Kevin Hines serves as an Associate Teaching Professor of Production Technology & Management at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has taught Technical Direction and Technical Design for over 25 years. He represents CMU in the Fusion Studio for Entertainment and Engineering partnership with Purdue University and is an active member of USITT.
His academic foundation includes degrees from Binghamton University and the Yale School of Drama.
Hines' professional focus centers on the scientific and engineering principles underlying theatrical fabrication, emphasizing the tangible realization of artistic visions through physical construction. His expertise spans stage engineering, scenic construction, and adaptation of traditional/emerging trade craft methods, bridging artistic creativity with practical engineering solutions in live performance contexts.
He maintains an active freelance career as a Technical Designer and Detailer for Broadway productions and national tours, while also applying his engineering skills to residential construction and specialized systems like ionized air-handling for wastewater treatment facilities.
