Kevin Donohue

Kevin Donohue is the Databeam Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky's Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering. He co-founded Signal Solutions LLC as a technical director, focusing on applied sensor technologies. His education includes a B.A. in Mathematics from Northeastern Illinois University and a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Donohue's research spans biomedical signals, detection theory, and distributed sensor systems. He pioneered non-invasive sleep monitoring in rodents using piezoelectric sensors, advancing sleep disorder research and neurotechnology. His work intersects engineering with healthcare, agriculture, and animal science—e.g., developing acoustic/hyperspectral systems to detect codling moth infestations in apples. Recent studies address sex differences in sleep, sleep deprivation impacts on dairy cows, and genetic influences on sleep patterns.
