Kevin Crosby, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. He holds a B.S. in Horticultural Sciences from Texas A&M University, an M.S. in Horticulture/Plant Breeding from the University of Hawaii, and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University.
Dr. Crosby's research focuses on plant breeding and genetics of vegetable crops, including melon, pepper, tomato, onion, and carrot. His work elucidates genetic mechanisms for stress tolerance and enhanced nutritional quality, with discoveries of novel traits related to root physiology, vigor, virus resistance, and insect resistance. His program developed a genetic linkage map of melon with DNA markers linked to key traits and has produced elite breeding lines for commercial seed companies, resulting in 9 cultivar releases. Notably, he created high-antioxidant pepper lines with flavonoid and ascorbic acid levels exceeding commercial cultivars by 400%.
