Dr. Kerstin Richter is a Researcher at the University of Bielefeld's Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies, specializing in Clinical Linguistics within the Department of Linguistics, Clinical Linguistics, Text Technology and Computational Linguistics. She serves as Programme Coordinator of the KliLi program and leads Project C03 "Creativity in verbal and multi-modal communication of people with neurogenic language and communication disorders" within SFB 1646: Linguistic Creativity in Communication.
- Education: Master's in Linguistics (1993, University of Bielefeld), PhD in Computational Linguistics (1998, University of Stuttgart)
- Professional Background: Clinical Speech Therapist at EvKB Neurology Clinic (1994-2009) before transitioning to academic research
Her research focuses on clinical phonetics and acoustic analysis of speech motor disorders, with particular expertise in dysarthria, apraxia of speech, dysphagia, and aphasiology. Dr. Richter combines theoretical linguistic approaches with clinical applications to advance understanding and treatment of neurogenic communication disorders.
As an educator, she is responsible for multiple modules including Neurogenic Speech Disorders/Aphasiology I & II, Neurogenic speech and swallowing disorders, and Clinical Internship in Neurology. She also provides academic counseling as Clinical Linguistics Student Advisor and serves as the recognition contact point for Bachelor's degrees in Clinical Linguistics.
Dr. Richter has maintained her research position with Prof. Prisca Stenneken since 2010, effectively bridging her clinical experience with academic research to advance translational applications in speech therapy and communication disorder treatment.
