Dr. Kerry Taylor is an Associate Professor and Director of the Charleston Oral History Program at The Citadel's Department of History, within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. He specializes in 20th-century US, labor, and civil rights history, with a focus on oral history methodologies.
Education includes a Ph.D. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, M.A. in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi, B.S. in Labor Studies from Indiana University Northwest, and B.A. in Journalism from Marquette University.
His research explores Charleston's working-class history, Latinx communities, and the intersection of civil rights with labor movements. Current projects include a manuscript on the New Left, civil rights, and labor (1967-1981). He previously co-edited volumes of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers and directed the Southern Oral History Program at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Oral history initiatives include documenting Charleston’s working-class agency and Latinx regional history. He has been featured on 'Walter Edgar’s Journal' discussing Charleston during the Great Depression.
