Kerry Soo Von Esch

Dr. Von Esch serves as an Associate Professor and Program Director for Educating Non-Native English Speakers (ENES) at Seattle University's College of Education. With a PhD in Language, Literacy, and Culture from University of Washington, her scholarship focuses on asset-based pedagogies for emergent bilingual students.

Her research investigates how K-12 teachers develop critical approaches to culturally and linguistically sustaining instruction, particularly in content areas like mathematics and science. Current projects examine teacher learning through school-embedded professional development models including learning labs and lesson study approaches.

She maintains research-practice partnerships with elementary schools to advance equitable education frameworks that validate students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds as learning assets.
