Kerry MacQuarrie is a Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick and Science Director of the Canadian Rivers Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from the University of Waterloo and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
Research Focus: His work centers on groundwater-surface water interactions, contaminant transport modeling, climate change impacts on water resources, and watershed management. Current projects quantify impacts of agricultural groundwater extraction on streamflow, develop nitrate leaching models for potato farming, and investigate deep geological repositories for nuclear waste storage through reactive transport modeling.
Technical Expertise: Dr. MacQuarrie develops numerical models for groundwater flow, solute/heat transport, and multicomponent reactive systems. His field methods include geophysical monitoring (electrical resistivity) for dam safety assessment and groundwater contamination studies.
Professional Recognition: Invited reviewer for the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental System Science program (2021). Active member of the American Geophysical Union and National Ground Water Association.
