Kerry Brown is an Associate Chair and Professor of Art History at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Savannah, GA. He holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), an M.A. and B.A. in History of Art from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on Nepalese Buddhist art, Newar religious practices, and Himalayan cultural studies. He has held adjunct roles at multiple institutions, including VCU, Randolph-Macon College, and Antioch University. Brown has been recognized with prestigious awards like the Fulbright Student Fellowship and the P.E.O. International Scholar Award.
His scholarship explores ritual objects, sacred spaces, and iconography in Nepalese Buddhism. Recent work includes analyzing the Kwā Bahā temple’s symbolism and advocating for a globally equitable art history curriculum. Key publications address goddess iconography, pilgrimage practices, and meditational art. He has presented widely on topics like Buddhist narratives in contemporary Nepal and Himalayan visual culture.
Professional affiliations include the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies and the International Association of Buddhist Studies. His teaching spans art history surveys, Buddhist art, and Himalayan cultural studies.
