Kerrin Langer

Dr. Kerrin Langer is a Researcher in Environmental Sociology with a focus on Transformation Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences, TU Dortmund University. She holds a PhD in History and a Master’s in History from Bielefeld University. Her current role (since June 2024) involves research on 'Greening Military? Transformation of Armed Forces in the Context of Climate Crisis' at TU Dortmund. Previously (2020–2024), she was a Research Associate at the Bundeswehr Center for Military History and Social Sciences in Potsdam, focusing on pre-1945 military history. She also conducted doctoral research (2017–2020) on naval comparison practices in European maritime policy as part of the Collaborative Research Center 1288 at Bielefeld University.

Her research examines historical and contemporary interactions between militaries and the environment, emphasizing energy transformations and the socio-political dimensions of military greening. She employs interdisciplinary methods from history, sociology, and international relations.

Dr. Langer serves as editor of Militär und Gesellschaft and holds memberships in the Arbeitskreis Militärgeschichte, the International Studies Association (Historical IR section), and Collaborative Research Center 1288. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary security and environmental policy debates.
