Dr. Keren Weitzberg is a Senior Lecturer and Fellow at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Queen Mary University of London's School of Politics and International Relations. She holds MA and PhD degrees from Stanford University. Her interdisciplinary research examines migration, digital identity systems, biometrics, and climate technology, with a focus on East Africa and marginalized populations. She has conducted over 15 years of fieldwork in Kenya, exploring themes such as colonial fingerprinting, postcolonial identity, and resource scarcity in post-carbon economies.
Her current projects include *Biometrics from the Margins*, analyzing digital identity navigation among undocumented populations in Kenya, and a Robert Bosch Foundation-funded study on digital wallets' inclusivity for migrants. Past work includes her award-nominated book *We Do Not Have Borders*, which critiques Somali exclusion in Kenyan nation-building.
Dr. Weitzberg collaborates with Amnesty International, Privacy International, and UCL on digital rights, border policies, and counterterrorism. She co-directed *H is for Hostile Environment*, a public art project critiquing UK immigration enforcement. Her research appears in *The New York Times*, *BBC World Service*, and journals like *Africa* (as book reviews editor).
