معرفی
Kent Chapman, a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), is a leading researcher in plant lipid metabolism and cell biology. With a career spanning over 30 years at UNT, he has developed an internationally recognized research program focused on lipid droplet biogenesis, lipid signaling, and applications of plant lipids in human health and industry.
- Regents Professor of Biochemistry (2010)
- Director, UNT BioDiscovery Institute (2018-2024)
- President, American Society of Plant Biologists (2024)
- Fellow of AAAS (2025) and ASPB (2021)
His research leverages lipidomics, metabolic engineering, and advanced imaging technologies to address fundamental questions in plant biology while pursuing practical applications in agriculture and biotechnology. Current projects funded by the Department of Energy, NSF, and USDA explore lipid storage mechanisms, fatty acid amide hydrolase functions, and cottonseed value enhancement.
Chapman serves as Executive Editor for Progress in Lipid Research and reviewing editor for The Plant Cell. His lab includes a multidisciplinary team of researchers and graduate student Payton Whitehead.
