Kenny Banh

Kenny Banh, MD, FACEP serves as a Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and has been the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at UCSF Fresno since 2014. Dr. Banh is a prominent figure in emergency medicine, medical education, and community health initiatives, with a particular focus on serving underserved populations in California's San Joaquin Valley region.

Dr. Banh received his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a BA in Biology in 1999. He then attended Drexel University College of Medicine, where he earned his Medical Doctorate in 2004. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at UCSF Fresno in 2008. In 2018, he was recognized as a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Champion by UCSF.

Dr. Banh's research and professional interests center on emergency medicine, rural health access, mobile healthcare delivery, and medical education innovation. He has pioneered several groundbreaking programs aimed at improving healthcare access and medical training in underserved communities. His work emphasizes health equity, particularly for rural populations, farmworkers, the homeless, and other vulnerable groups in California's Central Valley, with significant contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Banh has secured significant funding for community health initiatives and medical education programs. His grants include the Rural Mobile Health Public Health Program, the UCSF Fresno COVID-19 Equity Project Vaccination program, and the San Joaquin Valley Regional Hub of Healthcare Opportunity. He has also received funding for medical student scholarships focused on underserved care in the San Joaquin Valley. Dr. Banh has mentored numerous medical students and residents through various educational programs he has developed.

Dr. Banh founded the UCSF Fresno Mobile Health and Learning (Mobile HeaL) clinic in 2018, which has grown to become the largest free health service provider in the region. The Mobile HeaL program serves rural communities, farmworkers, the homeless, and other vulnerable populations with services targeting COVID-19, influenza, diabetes, hypertension, sexually transmitted infections, MPOX, and childhood vaccinations. It was the largest single provider of COVID vaccines in the region and has treated nearly 200,000 patients. The program is notable for being the first mobile health program in California and the first in the country to deliver free contraceptive care services through the Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra Upstream initiative.
