Kenneth R. Shull is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering. His research focuses on soft materials, polymer adhesion, and interfaces, particularly in biomedical and industrial applications. Shull holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University and dual Master's/Bachelor's degrees from MIT.
Research interests include covalent adaptable networks (CANs), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) techniques, and polymer mechanics. Notable recognition includes NSF Young Investigator Award (1994–99) and American Physical Society Fellowship (2002).
His work bridges fundamental polymer physics with applications in art conservation, exploring materials like drying oils and pigment interactions. The Shull Group develops high-throughput measurement methods and studies dynamic polymer networks for recyclability.
