Kenneth P. Allen is a Professor of Microbiology & Immunology and currently serves as Assistant Provost and Director of the Biomedical Resource Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He holds a DVM from Iowa State University (1999) and is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DACLAM). His research focuses on infectious disease pathogenesis, vaccine antigen discovery, and translational biomedical engineering. He has extensive experience with animal models including swine, rodents, tree shrews, and ground squirrels, applying advanced imaging techniques like OCT angiography and spectroscopic methods.
Key contributions include biofabrication of vascular grafts using acellular membranes, retinal structure studies in cone-dominant species, and non-invasive monitoring technologies for liver oxygenation. Allen also leads institutional efforts in laboratory animal resources and biomedical infrastructure. His work bridges veterinary medicine, immunology, and engineering with applications in regenerative medicine and surgical monitoring.
Recent studies highlight interdisciplinary collaboration in stem cell transplantation for retinal repair and environmental impact assessments on laboratory animal physiology. His publications span journals in biomedical engineering, ophthalmology, and laboratory animal science, demonstrating expertise across preclinical research domains.
