Professor Kenneth McGill is a linguistic and cultural anthropologist at Southern Connecticut State University, specializing in the intersection of language, politics, and inequality. He earned his PhD from the University of Chicago in 2008 and teaches courses in Linguistic Anthropology, Anthropology of Education, and Cultural Anthropology.

His research focuses on the political economy of welfare states, labor, and exchange, with fieldwork conducted in Germany and the United States. He explores how language and ideology shape institutional practices in contexts such as unemployment systems, protest movements, and urban economies.
McGill’s publications include a 2019 article in Anthropological Theory applying Badiou’s philosophy to political sanction dynamics, a 2017 American Anthropologist study on Berlin protests, and a 2016 book on global inequality. His work frequently examines the interplay between discourse, ideology, and socioeconomic disparities.
