Kenneth MacKay

Kenneth S. MacKay, AIA, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture within the School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo. With over thirty years of experience teaching architectural design studios, he combines academic rigor with practical expertise as a licensed architect and former president of AIA Buffalo/WNY. His work emphasizes natural/artificial light, building systems integration, and form/space generation.

His research explores the interplay of light and building systems in architectural design, informed by his leadership roles in the Comprehensive Design Studio and UB's Solar Decathlon entry. Awards include AIA Buffalo/WNY Mentor of the Year, NCARB Scholar in Professional Practice, and multiple design honors for built projects.

As a dedicated educator, MacKay has taught professional practice courses for 20 years and directed 8 summer study abroad programs in Ireland/Scotland. He currently serves as Study Abroad & Exchange Program Director while maintaining active architectural practice and industry leadership roles.
