Dr. Kenneth G. Ricks is a Professor and Interim Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama, College of Engineering. He is also affiliated with the Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies and actively contributes to research in robotics and intelligent systems.

Dr. Ricks' research focuses on artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, computer vision, embedded systems, guidance, navigation and control, and robotics. His work emphasizes real-world applications in space and terrestrial robotics, particularly through student-led innovation and competition.
His leadership in student robotics has led to sustained national success, with teams winning multiple NASA Lunabotics and IEEE SoutheastCon championships. These achievements reflect his commitment to experiential learning and engineering excellence.

He leads the Alabama Astrobotics team, which operates from a state-of-the-art lab designed to mirror competition environments. The team has consistently placed in the top six in NASA competitions since 2010 and has won five consecutive national titles in the NASA Robotic Mining Competition.
