Dr. Kenneth Elgersma is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Northern Iowa, affiliated with the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on ecosystem-level impacts of agricultural practices and wetland restoration.

Dr. Elgersma investigates carbon and nitrogen cycling in agricultural systems, particularly in biofuels production and Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) practices. He collaborates with the USGS and leads the development of the MONDRIAN simulation model for managing invasive wetland plants like Phragmites.
His work includes adaptive management strategies for wetland restoration in the Saginaw Bay area of Michigan, implemented through interactive web tools. Teaching interests span Biostatistics, Restoration Ecology, and Advanced Ecology.
