Keng Yoon Yeong is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Science at Monash University, specializing in Medicinal Chemistry and Advanced Organic Chemistry. His research focuses on small molecule and short peptide drug discovery targeting cancers, infectious diseases, and neurological disorders. Prior to academia, he spent 11 years as a research scientist in industry, focusing on organic synthesis and immunoassays. His work is supported by international and national funders like the Royal Society of Chemistry UK and Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). He has co-authored over 60 publications and holds several awards, including the Faculty of Science Dean's Awards for Excellence in Teaching (2020) and Honours Supervision (2023).
His research group employs parallel synthesis for compound libraries and explores strategies like computer-aided drug design and bioisosteric replacements. Recent projects include developing ADAR1 inhibitors for oral cancers and isolating bioactive compounds from Myristica fragrans for Alzheimer’s treatment. He actively collaborates internationally and has visited institutions like the University of Northern British Columbia (2024) and Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (2024).
Awards include the Golden Pavilion Award for Best Research Project and Thesis from University Science Malaysia (2015–2016), and recognition for sustainable drug discovery initiatives. His media engagements include TEDx talks and features on drug discovery trends.
