Ken Haenen

Prof. Ken Haenen is a Full Professor at Hasselt University, serving as Vice-Rector for Research & Internationalisation and Head of the WBGM research group within imo-imomec. He holds a doctorate from 2002 and has extensive postdoctoral experience, including at Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). His research focuses on CVD diamond synthesis, opto-electronic characterization, and carbon-based materials for energy applications. He leads international conferences like the Diamond and Carbon Materials Conference (as Chair) and co-leads the Hasselt Diamond Workshop. As Editor-in-Chief of Diamond and Related Materials and MethodsX, he contributes to advancing materials science literature.

His career spans roles from tenure-track lecturer (2008) to full professor (2019), with expertise in diamond-based devices, surface functionalization, and quantum sensing applications. His work bridges material synthesis and practical device development, addressing challenges in energy conversion and nanotechnology.
