Dr. Ken Bruton is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at University College Cork (UCC). With over 20 years of experience in industrial sustainability, he focuses on data-driven solutions for decarbonisation and energy efficiency in industries. He co-directs the Intelligent Efficiency Research Group, advancing digitalisation and sustainability transitions. Dr. Bruton holds a BE (2001), MEngSc (2004), and PhD (2014) in Engineering from UCC.
His research interests include industrial decarbonisation, energy management systems, smart grid integration, and predictive maintenance. Notable achievements include winning the UCC ICT Invention of the Year (2013) and the SEAI Energy Research Award (2014) for work on fault detection tools. He collaborates with the MAREI and ERBE research centers, addressing energy resilience and industrial net-zero goals.
Dr. Bruton teaches modules such as Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Data Analytics for Engineering. His work bridges academia and industry, aiding companies in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. He is a certified Measurement and Verification Professional and contributes to national committees like the NSAI Energy Management Committee.
