Kelly Schultz is the Larry and Virginia Faith Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University's Davidson School of Chemical Engineering. She joined Purdue in January 2024 and holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware (2011) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University (2006). Her research focuses on rheological characterization of evolving gel materials for applications in consumer products, biomaterials, and medical implants.
Key research interests include biochemical and biomolecular engineering, fluid mechanics, interfacial phenomena, polymers, and materials science. Her group develops experimental techniques like microrheology and microfluidics to study gel dynamics during phase transitions and degradation. This work aims to advance material design for targeted applications such as fabric care and regenerative medicine.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding cell-material interactions in hydrogels, phase transitions of colloidal systems, and rheological analysis of biomaterials. Awards include recognition as an Outstanding Reviewer for Soft Matter (2021). She advises six graduate students and collaborates on grants focused on biomaterials and soft matter engineering.
Labs/Teams: Schultz Lab, part of the Davidson School, focuses on dynamic material characterization and biomaterial innovation. Current projects involve enzymatically degradable hydrogels and microfluidic platforms for phase transition studies.
