Kelly Richmond is an Assistant Professor at the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State University. She holds a PhD in Performing and Media Arts from Cornell University, alongside MA and BA degrees in Theatre Arts and English Drama & Theatre from Cornell and McGill University. Her research focuses on queer performance, environmental activism, and gothic aesthetics, with a practice-as-research approach combining artivism, community collaboration, and pedagogy.
Her artistic works include Loose Ties (2024), Haunted Natures, Hidden Environments (2022), and Out of Reach: A Queer Fairy Tale (2023), alongside symposia such as The Ithaca Department of Arts and Future (2023) and Re-imagining the Future: A Teach-In on Fostering Environmental Stewardship (2023). She is a member of MSU’s inaugural 1855 Professors cohort, driving interdisciplinary collaborations across campus.
Richmond’s awards include the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society induction (2024), recognizing her advocacy for underrepresented students. She teaches in RCAH’s Tier I Writing program and Arts Pathway, blending creative practice with environmental and queer studies. Additional roles include part-time cat rescuer and full-time ghost hunter.
