Kelly McAninch

Kelly McAninch is Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Communication at the University of Kentucky. Her research examines how individuals navigate difficult conversations, particularly relationship discussions between romantic partners. She teaches courses in interpersonal communication, close relationships, and communication in health contexts.

Her current research investigates communication patterns in relationships affected by chronic illness, combining relational turbulence theory with resilience frameworks. Recent publications explore uncertainty management in health contexts, social support perceptions among chronically ill individuals, and communication strategies for maintaining relationships during health challenges. Her work has been recognized with Top Paper awards from national communication associations.
