Kelly L. Cozza is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) School of Medicine and the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program. She serves as Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Psychiatry, Director of Faculty Development, Academic Appointments, and Promotions, and is a senior faculty-clinician at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Additionally, she is a scientist for the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) at USU with over 30 years of clinical and academic experience.
Her educational background includes:
- MD from Creighton University School of Medicine (1987)
- Psychiatry Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (1987-1990)
- Consultation-Liaison Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (1992-1993)
Dr. Cozza's research focuses on HIV/AIDS psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and collaborative care models for medically complex patients. She has pioneered tele-simulation and tele-health educational methodologies with global reach, developing synchronous and asynchronous medical education resources through the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) Clinical Simulation Initiative. Her work bridges psychiatric care with military medicine and traumatic stress research through CSTS.
She has received significant professional distinctions:
- Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DLFAPA)
- Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (FACLP)
As an educator, Dr. Cozza leads undergraduate medical education and faculty development while contributing to international psychiatric education standards through the World Psychiatric Association HIV Workgroup and ACLP Medical Student Education Subcommittee. Her leadership extends to creating the ACLP Quarterly HIV-related Annotations and developing globally implemented psychiatric curricula.
Her institutional affiliations include the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) where she integrates psychiatric expertise with military medicine research, and ongoing collaborations with the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program for training military psychiatrists.
