Kelly Hall is a Reader in Social Policy at the University of Birmingham, affiliated with the Department of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology and the School of Social Policy and Society. She currently serves as Director of Global Engagement for the School of Social Policy and Society. Her academic journey includes a BA in Social Sciences (2003), MSc in Social Research Methods (2004), PG Cert in Higher Education (2008), and a PhD in Sociology and Social Policy (2011), all from Nottingham Trent University.
Her research focuses on social care systems, particularly the role of social enterprises and voluntary organizations. Key areas include transnational care systems, international retirement migration (especially post-Brexit challenges for British migrants in Spain), and participatory research methodologies. She leads the Social Enterprise in Social Care project and co-developed the Support in Spain initiative.
Recent publications analyze transnational care systems, Brexit's impact on migrant seniors, and social enterprise models in care delivery. Awards include the NIHR SSCR Research Leaders Award. She advises on policy briefs for governments and collaborates with organizations like Age UK and the British Consulates. Teaching includes modules on social policy futures and innovative solutions to social problems.
