Kelly Hager is an Associate Professor of English and Women's & Gender Studies at Simmons University, currently serving as Associate Provost for Curriculum, Assessment, and Accreditation. She has held multiple leadership roles including Interim Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Director of General Education. Her academic career spans over two decades, with expertise in Victorian literature, children's literature, and gender studies.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in English from University of California, Irvine; B.A. from Rice University.
Research focuses on Victorian literature's intersection with children's literature, particularly how reading shapes intellectual and psychosexual health. Her book Dickens and the Rise of Divorce (2010) redefines Victorian proto-feminism through failed-marriage plots. Current projects explore children's literature's role in forming healthy identities.
Recipient of the 2006 Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Co-edited special issues and contributed to major literary encyclopedias. Active in academic leadership, including co-chairing Harvard's Victorian Literature and Culture Seminar (2009–2018).
