Kelly A. Douglass is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester, where she also serves as the director of the C.E.K. Mees Observatory. Her research focuses on observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, and the statistical analysis of large-scale cosmic structures.
- Research interests: Galaxy evolution, cosmic voids, dark matter, and galaxy kinematics
- Current work involves SDSS and DESI data to study galaxy-environment connections
- Member of the DESI collaboration
Dr. Douglass teaches advanced astrophysics courses at the University of Rochester, including Galactic Structure and Advanced Astrophysics Laboratory. She previously taught physics and quantum mechanics courses at Drexel University and Cornell University.
As an educator, she has developed innovative curricula integrating programming with physics instruction. She maintains active professional memberships in the American Astronomical Society and Supernova Foundation, and combines her scientific work with an active amateur dance practice in Latin, ballroom, and modern dance styles.
