Kelilah Wolkowicz, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at the Francis College of Engineering, University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research bridges biomedical robotics and connected healthcare, focusing on assistive device design and biosignal interfaces.
- Postdoctoral research in Bioengineering at Harvard University (2020)
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State (2018)
- M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State (2016) and Roger Williams University (2012)
Her work combines biomedical robotics, nonlinear control systems, and machine learning to develop technologies for diabetes management and wheelchair accessibility. Recent projects include WheelUp! (a wheelchair training simulator) and insulin-on-board estimation algorithms.
Key publication themes include:
- Diabetes Management: Artificial pancreas systems, insulin biosensors, and automated delivery mechanisms
- Assistive Robotics: Wheelchair navigation, tire slip estimation, and obstacle detection
- Control Systems: Kalman filters, intent inference, and real-time estimation
Recognized with the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (2012), she contributes to academic service as a faculty advocate for the River Hawk Scholars Academy, a fellow for DifferenceMaker, and advisor for the Society of Women Engineers chapter.
