Keith Berry is a Professor and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida, within the College of Arts and Sciences. His academic journey includes roles such as Director of Graduate Studies and past leadership in the Ethnography Division of the National Communication Association (NCA). Berry holds a Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University (2004), and prior appointments include tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Wisconsin System Teaching Fellowship (2007-2008).
His research focuses on relational communication, LGBTQ+ identities, bullying, and autoethnography. Notable works include Bullied: Tales of Torment, Identity, and Youth (2016) and co-authored Interpersonal Conflict (2022). His work has been honored with awards like the NCA Best Book Award and the Goodall/Trujillo Award. Berry has advised numerous graduate students and contributed to academic grants, including a $5,000 Advancing the Discipline Grant (2016).
Berry’s teaching spans courses on autoethnography, communication theory, and LGBTQ+ communication. He has held editorial roles for journals like Communication Studies and Journal of Autoethnography. His service includes leadership in anti-bullying initiatives and university committees. His research bridges qualitative methods with social justice, emphasizing reflexive practices and narrative inquiry.
