Keira Loughran

Keira Loughran is an Assistant Professor in the Theatre, Dance & Performance department at York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design. With a 25+ year career spanning acting, directing, and producing, she has significantly impacted Canadian theatre's diversification. Her work emphasizes using performance to foster community identity and social cohesion.

Key roles include directing four Stratford Festival productions and spearheading organizational change as inaugural Associate Producer for the Forum and Laboratory, implementing EDI frameworks. Previously, she held leadership roles at SummerWorks Festival, Young Peoples’ Theatre, and Nightwood Theatre. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates martial arts and cross-cultural practices to innovate contemporary performance's societal role.

Her 2024 documentary Exclusion: Beyond the Silence, exploring marginalized narratives, premiered at the Reel Asian Film Festival and screens internationally. Loughran advocates for art as a tool for social change through community-focused creative projects.
