Kees Flipse is an Associate Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology's Molecular Materials and Nanosystems group within the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. His research focuses on electronic structure effects in graphene, spin selectivity in chiral materials, and quantum fluid behavior in superconductors. He leads the European TAILSPIN consortium developing spin-polarized quantum devices using graphene, based on his discovery of room-temperature ferromagnetism in hydrogenated graphene.
Education: PhD in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology (1985), postdoctoral research at Free University of Amsterdam, and senior lecturer at University of Liverpool's Interdisciplinary Research Center in Surface Science. Joined TU/e in 1989 as Assistant Professor, promoted to current rank in 2001.
Research interests include 2D materials' magnetic properties, quantum device applications, and high-temperature superconductors. Recent projects involve EU-funded graphene initiatives and studies on perovskite oxides' catalytic surfaces. His work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy through advanced materials development.
Grants: Current funding includes continuation grants for graphene research and TAILSPIN consortium leadership. Over 50 supervised research projects documented in his profile.
Labs/Teams: Active in TU/e's Molecular Materials and Nanosystems group, collaborating internationally on surface science and quantum materials. Instrumental in developing novel microscopy techniques for magnetic texture analysis.
