Kees Biekart

Kees Biekart is an Associate Professor in Political Sociology at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research focuses on social movements, civil society, civic agency, and participatory action research, with regional expertise in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He holds a PhD in Political Science (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam and previously worked at the Transnational Institute (TNI) and Leiden University.

His current research explores civic agency in changing civic spaces, emphasizing decolonial approaches to global development. Notable works include editing *A Research Agenda for Civil Society* (2022) and co-authoring *Challenging Global Development: Towards Decoloniality and Justice* (2023). Recent publications address topics like diasporic philanthropy and decolonizing development studies.

Biekart has supervised three academic works and actively participates in global conferences, including organizing the 16th EADI General Conference (2021). His interdisciplinary approach bridges theory and practice, advocating for equitable global policies through civic-driven change frameworks.
