Professor Kecheng Liu is a Professor of Applied Informatics and the Honourary Director of the Informatics Research Centre at Henley Business School, University of Reading. He serves as Programme Director for MSc Informatics (Beijing) and has held numerous leadership roles including founding Head of the School of Business Informatics, Systems and Accounting (2011-2016) and serving on the University Senate since 2002.
Internationally renowned for his work in organizational semiotics and business informatics, Professor Liu's research spans digital strategy, enterprise information systems, business-IT alignment, and intelligent information systems. His scholarly output demonstrates expertise across healthcare, finance, environmental policy, and e-commerce domains, with particular focus on semiotics applications in AI, digital transformation, and business ecosystems. His theoretical work bridges organizational semiotics with practical business applications.
His recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on trustworthy AI development, semantic interoperability in healthcare systems, and the intersection of digital transformation with environmental sustainability. These works demonstrate consistent methodological rigor while addressing pressing contemporary challenges in information systems and business strategy.

Professor Liu has secured significant research funding including a National Natural Science Foundation of China project on Big Data Driven Innovation in Healthcare (2016-2021), a British Council Newton Fund project on Economic Development in Kazakhstan (2015-2017), and an EU-funded project on E-Leadership skills for SMEs (2014-2015). He has supervised over 50 PhD students to completion and established the Informatics Research Centre as a hub for interdisciplinary research connecting business strategy with information systems.
He maintains strong international connections through visiting professorships at Renmin University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Beijing Jiaotong University, facilitating cross-cultural research collaborations particularly focused on China's digital transformation.
