Kayla Kenney is a Sessional Lecturer and PhD student at the University of British Columbia’s School of Social Work (Faculty of Arts). Their doctoral research focuses on social work practice with younger trans and gender-diverse individuals in healthcare settings. They hold an MSW from Simmons University and BSW from the University of New Hampshire.
Research interests include advancing equity in health/social care through practice, education, and community-driven gender-affirming care. Their work emphasizes LGBTQ2S communities, reproductive justice, and adolescent health. Teaching focuses on generalist social work practice methods, ethics, and community development.
Publications (2023) explore peer support networks in transgender communities and gender-affirming care systems. Supervised under Dr. Sheila Marshall and Dr. Hannah Kia, their research employs qualitative methodologies to address systemic barriers in healthcare.
