Kavi Patel serves as a Senior Clinical Lecturer and co-director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences MSc program at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. He works as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specializing in acute complex trauma and elective lower limb reconstruction.
Dr. Patel graduated from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, completed higher surgical training on the Cambridge rotation, and undertook post-CCT fellowships in complex trauma and limb reconstruction at King's College Hospital and St George's Hospital. He holds a Master's in Surgical Science from UCL and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
His research focuses on improving long-term outcomes for polytrauma patients, with expertise in failed fracture fixation, non-union, deformity correction, and bone infection management. As an active educator, he serves as faculty on limb reconstruction and trauma courses, contributing significantly to orthopaedic education.
Dr. Patel leads the fracture-related infection initiative on the steering committee of the UK Bone & Joint Infection Registry and maintains an active role as an Army Reservist with a focus on conflict and humanitarian surgery in austere environments.
