Kaveh Fathian serves as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Colorado School of Mines, leading the Autonomy, Robotics, and Intelligent Algorithms (ARIA) lab. Previously, he held a research scientist position at MIT.
His academic credentials are:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, UT Dallas (2018)
- MS in Mathematics, UT Dallas (2013)
- MS in Electrical Engineering, UT Dallas (2013)
- BS in Electrical Engineering, IKIU, Iran (2010)
Dr. Fathian pioneers certifiable algorithms for robotic perception and autonomy, specializing in robust SLAM systems resilient to extreme outlier ratios (>99%). His research develops novel relaxation techniques for optimization problems with optimality guarantees and extends these technologies to multi-robot teams for edge/cloud-computing cyber-physical robot networks. The ARIA lab bridges theoretical advances in visual navigation with real-world field robotics applications.
Dr. Fathian actively shapes the robotics community as Associate Editor for IROS 2024 and ICRA 2024, and through organizing high-impact workshops including the record-attended ICRA 2022 workshop on robotic perception.
The ARIA lab maintains active research teams developing resilient perception systems, with fully-funded PhD positions available for candidates pursuing breakthroughs in certifiable autonomy algorithms.
