Katy Scott

Katy Scott serves as Associate Professor and Director of the Physician Assistant Program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, with over 23 years of continuous service in the SIU PA Program since 1999. Her career spans clinical practice in family medicine since 1995, focused on rural and underserved communities in southern Illinois, alongside academic leadership roles including Academic Coordinator and Associate Director.

Her educational credentials include:

• Master of Physician Assistant Studies from University of Nebraska Medical Center
• B.A. in Physiology from Southern Illinois University
• Physician Assistant Studies from Saint Louis University

Dr. Scott's clinical expertise centers on chronic disease management, particularly obesity and diabetes, where she founded the SIU Center for Family Medicine's weight management clinic in Carbondale. Her educational contributions feature advanced Problem-Based Learning methodology, with extensive faculty training in PBL facilitation techniques. She maintains strong engagement with rural healthcare disparities through both clinical service and curriculum development.

As Program Director, she oversees all academic and clinical operations while continuing direct student mentorship and preceptorship. Her leadership extends to developing community-based clinical training sites that address regional healthcare gaps, particularly through the weight management clinic initiative serving southern Illinois populations.

The weight management clinic represents her primary clinical innovation, functioning as both patient care facility and advanced training site for PA students specializing in metabolic disorders.
